Manages project interactions in the development of technically written documents and handles questions from Project Managers of manufacturing clients by providing timely support to requests for information and data.
  • Runs Documentation department and is fully involved in development and design of all projects
    • Leads in-house and contract writers, illustrators, developers, data entry personnel, trainers, and on-site technical staff to ensure schedules, production, and quality control
    • Investigates questions to obtain answers and performs data research
    • Organizes retrieval of files (source info/data), and graphics in supporting development and delivery of written operating and maintenance manuals
  • Workflow goal is managing 6-12 large-scale client projects at various stages of development and delivery
  • Delivers all projects in accordance with manufacturers production/delivery schedules
  • Tracks and implements design changes during production through end of warranty period
  • Assigns work to staff and contractors for efficiently getting info to others
  • Assures compliance with technical and quality standards
  • Acts as key point of contact for review and resolution of all in-house technical issues
  • Collaborates multi-functionally on projects with engineering, manufacturing, project management, and documentation departments of clients
  • Approximately 20% of time is writing using existing source data/documents in addition to new research
  • Develops operating & maintenance manuals for electrical, mechanical, hydraulic equipment
  • 5% travel depending on stages of contracts (once or twice a quarter) to set-up a contract and obtain acceptance of project criteria, gather data, perform validation/research, etc.
  • Contributes new ideas and loads into proprietary resource database
  • Fosters team building of new talent for outsourcing future needs of contract writers and illustrators
  • Reviews and resolves documentation issues with clients, transit authorities, suppliers, consultants
  • Delivers multiple projects in accordance with established deadlines
REQUIREMENTS
  • Project Management leadership 10+ years experience developing, writing, and leading all facets of technical documentation production
    • Scope of projects entail multiple stakeholders, departments, information pieces, and deadline schedules
  • Technical writing experience doing documentation within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience writing content comprised of electro-mechanical systems and software control subject matter
  • Prefer passenger rail vehicle experience
  • Familiar with Safety standards CFR title 49 Parts 229, 238, etc.
  • Adept at data processing, illustrations, budgeting, contractor communication
  • Microsoft Office, Adobe Framemaker, Modeling and graphics programs
  • Hands-on Problem-solving, decision making, works with little supervision and results-oriented leadership

$75,000 - $90,000
